On a soggy September 25 night, the Walker Wolverines came away with a victory on the road over the Saint Francis Knights. The Walker defense was the key to the game as they scored and got three game changing turnovers to secure a Walker victory. One major turnover came once the Wolverines had a 14-7 lead when senior Avery Eikost (#77) intercepted a pass and returned it 25 yards for his first touchdown of the year. Late in the fourth quarter senior Mitchell Carmack (#12) came up with an interception to seal a 21-14 wolverine win.
The running game really got going for the Wolverines on Friday night. Sophomore Joseph Vose (#13) led the charge with 104 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Junior Lawson Ashby (#36) added to the rushing attack with 75 yards on 15 carries. The passing game added to the score with a 15 yard reception touchdown from senior Charlie Maxwell (#34). Vose was only three of six on passing for 25 yards and one score.
The Walker defense once again was a bright spot for the Wolverines in the win. It was an evenly spread game on defense; seniors Ben Snavely (#75) and Eikost led the Wolverines in total tackles with eight each. Carmack also had an excellent game on defense with seven total tackles with three of them for a loss. Carmack also had the game clinching interception. The Wolverines’ next game is at Mount Zion in Carrollton on October 2.
