Bringing Back Tradition: Multicultural Day!

Throughout the years, Walker has made a conscious effort to promote diversity, but most notable is the parade and Taste of Nations. The parade and Taste of Nations are a way for students to experience and learn about the beauty of other cultures, and taste different nation’s foods. Due to the pandemic and other conflicts, we have not been able to participate for the last few years, but Diversity Alliance has announced that we will be keeping the tradition alive. On Friday, April 12th, all of the Walker community is invited to participate in this year’s Multicultural Day!

We asked Walker students how they felt about bringing back Multicultural Day:

Kendal Johnson (9): “I’m excited! Bringing it back is going to rebuild interest in culture at Walker.” Kendal came to Walker in first grade. Years ago, Kendal and her brother Gavin walked in the parade, representing Jamaica. She sees this as a way to rekindle the community surrounding culture.

Maya Patel (11): “I like that it’s coming back. I loved it in Primary and Lower school.” Maya started attending Walker in kindergarten and this was one of her favorite things about Walker, as it makes it unique.

Essentially, Multicultural Day shows Walker’s diversity and the importance of exposure to different backgrounds and cultures!
