Lately, on many social media platforms, Chipotle customers have been complaining about the inconsistency and even downsizing of their food portions. The popular food chain has always been known for its “Generous portion[s] –a core brand equity of Chipotle” says CEO Biran Niccol. Because menu items can range from anywhere around $7 to $14, customers have noted Chipotle is not cheap, but they make up for it with their portion sizes. This sudden downsizing undermines an essential characteristic of what makes the food chain so popular. While Chipotle higher-ups have denied that there has been any official change to the portion sizes, they have responded to customer feedback and have enforced more on training employees with an emphasis on portions.

The Mexican-style food chain is a popular spot for seniors during their free lunch, or students of all ages for an after-school snack. Lexi Herbst, a senior here at Walker, has said that her portions at Chipotle “Are perfect because I can have one half one day and the other half the next.” While Chipotle’s seemingly smaller portions are a bit more sizable to eat in one sitting, most people tend to enjoy their Chipotle over about two sittings because they feel they’re getting their money’s worth.
Chipotle may have faced some backlash for its inconsistent portions, but its ability to listen to customer feedback and take action shows its commitment to customer satisfaction.
