During the 2023-2024 school year, the Atlanta Girls School informed its students that it would shut down. Having this be so sudden and close to the end of the semester, those attending had to search for where they’d continue their education for the remainder of high school. Luckily, Walker understood the circumstances and accommodated tours and late enrollment. Many of them shadowed before attending, and there was a strong sense of excitement within the student body to welcome the AGS girls into our community. The Walker community has been relatively consistent over the past few years, but receiving so many new students with such vibrant personalities is refreshing. Their flawless transition to a new school, involvement in the community, and positive attitudes are truly admirable.

At AGS, they had something similar to being a “Lifer” at Walker; they were called “Royals.” AGS was from sixth grade through twelfth grade. Many of the AGS girls who attend Walker are now Royals. I’ve spoken to some of them, and they can all admit, “Having to leave friends you’ve grown up with is hard.” The former juniors and current seniors spent their last day at AGS participating in senior traditions like senior skirts, bittersweetly celebrating what would have been their graduation from a school they had called home for so long. Even in their final goodbyes to the school, they remained optimistic. The optimism carried onto their arrival at Walker.
The girls quickly immersed themselves in the community by joining sports, making new friends, and taking advanced courses. Some joined sports like volleyball, softball, and cheer; others excelled in advanced STEM classes. Their infectious enthusiasm spread throughout high school almost instant to their arrival, and I am honored to be friends with them and glad they’ve settled into their new home with ease. Congratulations on your journey ahead. The Walker community and I are excited to see all that you will achieve.
