
The Walker Wolverines began the week of 2/24 with a bang against North Hall High School, who, at the time of the game, were ranked twenty-second in the state amongst all schools in Georgia. Grant Addison led the way for the Wolverines at the plate, collecting four hits in four at-bats, including a mammoth home run in the fifth inning. Jonathan Griggs completed a vicious combo in the heart of the Wolverine order, batting behind Addison, tallying four hits in five at-bats, including a triple that put Walker on the board in the top of the first. The Wolverine offense was mighty on Monday, accumulating eight runs on fourteen hits, seven walks, and ten stolen bases.
Tyler Fallmann earned the win on the mound, giving up one hit and zero runs over five and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking three. Joaquin Santos finished the evening, pitching one and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball. He surrendered only one hit, K’ing two and walking one. Walker also played sound defense, making zero errors and turning one double play. The final score was 8-0.
The Wolverines finished the week in a heartbreaking loss to Holy Innocents Episcopal School. Brendan Finger singled three times in three at-bats, and Tyler Fallmann doubled twice in three at-bats, batting in four runs, two of which came in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit from three to one. Walker amassed seven more walks, continuing their patient approach.
Jensen Kown took the loss for the Wolverines, surrendering four runs on seven hits, striking out four, and walking one over three and one-third innings. The Golden Bears flipped the momentum in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits and an error that let two cross home.
Walker began an eleventh-hour comeback with one out in the bottom of the seventh but ultimately fell short, with the final score being 6-7.
The Walker Wolverine Baseball team looks to improve their 3-5 record this week (3/3), facing the South Paulding High School Spartans, the Mount Pisgah Christian School Patriots, the Buford High School Wolves, and a team to be named. This week will be a big challenge for the Wolverines as they face their heaviest scheduled week, with the marquee matchup against Buford High School.
