As the spring sports season comes to a close, let’s take a moment to celebrate our athletes and continue cheering on those still making their way through the playoffs. Every spring sports team made it to the metro-10 playoffs. This is a huge accomplishment for our Wolverine athletes. That said, let’s take a closer look into each sport’s season and break down how they made their respective way into the playoffs.

Boys tennis got off to a rocky start, losing four straight to formidable opponents. However, as the season progressed, they eventually went on a four-win hot streak, bringing their final record to 8-9-1. With around a fifty percent win rate, the Wolverines went into the region tournament third out of seven teams. Starting the day, the guys got a quick 3-0 win over Therrell HS, matching them up against North Cobb Christian. Although losing to the Eagles earlier in the season 1-4, Walker came into this game with much more confidence, getting a 3-1 victory with big wins from Singles 1: Ajai Sheelvanth, Singles 3: Rohan Piplani, and Doubles 2: Robby Wottrich and Tate Bachman. This triumph secured the Wolverines second place in the tournament and home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. They would eventually go on to play Mt. Paran in the finals and lose a competitive match 1-3. The following week, Walker would take on North Murray in the first round of the state playoffs. In a 4-1 win, Singles 1: Ajai Sheelvanth, Singles 3: Rohan Piplani, and Doubles 2: Matthew Culling and Nick Landro made quick work of their opponents. With that, the Wolverines headed to round two, facing number one-seeded Landmark Christian. In a tough battle, the boys lost 0-3, ending their season with many positives to look back on.

Girls tennis had a fantastic year, completing their regular season with a record of 9-3, finishing with a 5-game win streak. Heading into the region tournament, the Wolverines were number one out of seven, giving them a first-round bye. Later in the day, they got a quick 3-0 win against Drew Charter, matching themselves against Mt. Paran in the finals. Winning the previous altercation, Walker was slated for victory, and, after some tough tennis, achieved the 3-0 win with a clean 6-0, 6-0 from Freshman Abigail Lee. This win gave the girls the number one seed for the first round of state, matching them up against Model HS at Damar Courts. With plenty of momentum, Walker won quickly through a 3-0 sweep. This victory moved the Wolverines onto the second round, pinning them against Banks County at home. After a tough battle, the girls pulled out another 3-0 win to keep their playoff hopes alive. With the trophy on their mind, the girl’s tennis team moved onto the third round, an impressive achievement, where they would play Jeff Davis High School. In a competitive match, the girls lost 0-3, ending their season with many accomplishments to look back on.

Boys’ soccer had an action-packed season filled with plenty of games. Losing their first game, the Wolverines went on an impressive streak, ending their regular season with a record of 14-3. Towards the middle of the season, the boys got to go on an extraordinary trip down to Hilton Head, where they would take on Hilton Head Prep in a much-anticipated match. With a quick 5-0 win, the Wolverines headed home to finish their season. With their excellent record, Walker secured a spot in the state playoffs, where they would face off against Murray County in the first round. Girls soccer had a great year, finishing their regular season with a record of 12-4-2. Along with boys, girls soccer also made their way to Hilton Head to face Hilton Head Prep. Walker lost 0-9, but this didn’t take away from their experience or what the season ahead had to offer. After this game, the girls only lost two more, spotting them a place in the first round of the metro playoffs. Going into their first round, the Wolverines were eager to keep moving, and Murray County was the first obstacle. In a comfortable win, Walker scored five while letting in 0, moving them onto the second round. In their next game, they faced Landmark Christian in the round of 16, where they took a 0-3 loss, ending their season after a strong playoff run.

Starting the year, the baseball team began with a slow start, losing seven straight to tough opponents. The team got into a groove as the season progressed, winning 9 out of their last 12 games, ending with a record of 10-10, earning a spot in the playoffs. In the first round, the Wolverines played Model HS in a 3-game series where Walker won in game three, securing them a spot in the next round. Boys Lacrosse started the year with a loss to a formidable opponent in Mt. Vernon, but went up from there, ending their season with a final record of 9-4. Here, they would play Wesleyan in a rematch from the season’s first game. Hungry for revenge, the Wolverines gave it their all but were eventually defeated 17-2, ending their season with a great round of 32 finish.

Starting off the season, girl lacrosse had a big win over King’s Ridge, then went into a bit of a cold streak heading into the thick of their schedule against strong opponents. However, the girls were still able to finish with a respectable record of 4-11, squeaking themselves into the playoffs. Their first-round opponent was against number one-seeded Lovett, the strongest opponent Walker had faced yet. The girls lost 20-2 in a final effort, ending their season but not taking away the memories and playoff berth they achieved.
