Both the Walker Varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball teams have had outstanding seasons. The boy’s team is going into regions with a record of 16-7 and their first game of regions is against Mount Paran, away at the Excel Christian School on Wednesday, February 10. Walker beat Mount Paran earlier in the season, but it was a close game with a final score of 46-44. The Lady Wolverines will take on Excel Christian Tuesday, February 9 at Excel. Early on in the season the Varsity Girls beat Excell with a final score of 40-27.
Although the boys lost their most recent game on Senior Night against Whitefield 71-53, they are optimistic about their first game of regions. They had a strong win against Pinecrest away Friday, February 5 with a final score of 61-49. If the team plays like they have all season, they have a good shot at brining home a title. Varsity Boy’s Point Guard Sam Bush said, “I think that the team has really improved over the course of the season and that we have a chance to win in regions and go to State.” This year’s captains are Ben Snavely, Spencer Palladino, Zach Hamilton, and Robert Baker. Junior Jesse Baynes is also optimistic about the girl’s opportunity to shine in regions. The girl team has lost their last two games against Whitefield and Pinecrest, but are back for blood in regions.
Go cheer on the Wolverines Tuesday, February 10 where the both team will hopefully advance to the next regions game. If you are a student at Walker, you can even ride the “fan bus” departing at Walker to the games at Excel. Go Walker!
