Best of 2016

With exams approaching, we have officially approached one of the most stressful times of the year. However, with the New Year right around the corner, we all need to take a moment and recap the events of this year. Whether this was the best year of your life or just another 365 days that have come and go, here is the good and bad of 2016.

We started off the year with the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil with the USA making history taking home 121 medals, 46 of them gold.

On June 12th, America was hit with the traumatic event of the Orlando Nightclub Shooting, which sent the country into a period of shock and sympathy for the families of those lost.

June 24th brought on the infamous Brexit, where Britain separated from the European Union. Although America was not directly affected, a toll has been taken on the American economy.

The Zika Virus spread to the United States from Africa, sending the nation into a state of hysteria. Thankfully like the Ebola outbreak, the disease is extremely rare and will most likely not come for all of you hypochondriacs out there like me.

Perhaps the biggest event in sports this year was the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series on Wednesday, November 12 for the first time since 1908, causing tons of excitement for Cubs fans across the nation.

Hurricane Matthew made it’s way from the Caribbean across the southeastern United States causing millions to evacuate their homes in coastal South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida from late September to early October.

Finally, we can not forget the most controversial topic of the year… Donald Trump winning the presidential election on November 8th. With a very long election season, the outcome split the US in half, with Trump supporters ecstatic and Clinton supporters outraged. The world is not going to end people.

Whether the events of 2016 affected you or not, it will definitely be a year to remember. Until 2017: Good luck on exams, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
